Saturday, March 04, 2006 Brittany back from Katrina Well, Brittany arrived home safely last night from her mission trip to Katrina. It has been fascinating hear her retell what she witnessed there!!!! What an experience….she came home HUMBLED and THANKFUL for every little thing she has.Here is a website with a few of the pictures that she took. ttp://photoshow.comcast.net/watch/sC9eb3QN You will notice many of the homes have spray painted numbers on them. They would write in all of the quadrants information like: what organization found them, how many fatalities in that home, etc. The area by the levy that broke has about 2500 bodies that haven’t even been tended to yet, because they are trapped there. Alligators have come RAMPANT to the city and have started eating away at the dead bodies!!! One tour lady told them that you can see that not a lot has been done here in the city to clean it up. (This happened in August 2005). She said the governor is doing that ON PURPOSE to make a statement to show that the federal government isn’t stepping in to help. Being it is an election year, I’m sure he’s hoping to advance his campaign. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr Brittany said they did a lot of labor work (feeding, sorting, organizing, etc.) and didn’t get the one on one time that she hoped with the people who live there. She said that is ok, though, it had to get done by someone! God will honor ANYTHING that was done there to help! She just had different expectations what they would be doing, but said it was still a VERY worthwhile trip. She said the people there were so happy to see people and groups reach out to them. I wish I could share with you some video that she took. They had a church service and had a big tank of water to be used at a baptism. We can see on the video many that came forward to be baptized! What an experience!!! I am so glad she got the opportunity to go there and see first hand what happens in a disaster and how God’s hand can be seen through tragedy.
